It
is a proven fact that the internet has changed how businesses do business. From access to larger and newer markets to
innovation and new product development, businesses both large and small have
benefitted from the tools of the internet in numerous ways.
One
of those tools with bonafide traction is blogging. Blogging is the act of posting content on a
blog; web log or online journal. Many
companies, particularly the larger ones that boast a well-staffed marketing
unit, utilize this method to keep their customers informed about new products
and other developments within their organizations.
But
blogging in and of itself, about a company and its products, does not have to
be a futile activity. Particularly
smaller companies can utilize blogging to generate content for the different
marketing portals that they use. Information
used in marketing activities such as collateral material development and
advertising, may be had from the content generated from the blog.
Blogging
also plays an important role in establishing the startup as a thought leader in
his field. Blogging has turned
entrepreneurs into writers. With most
magazines now digital, it is so much easier for your blog to be picked up by
more popular magazines especially when the use of ‘keywords’ are employed.
‘Keywords’
are the words and phrases that Internet users type into search engines, such as
Google, to find what websites that match what they are looking for. Some keywords because of popularity get
thousands of searches daily and as such are very competitive because many businesses
are seeking referrals and traffic from users when they search these words.
So
startups, I’m encouraging you to get started on your blog. It could just be a daily log of your sojourn
into business or the unique steps you took in starting your business. Blogging is free and platforms are available
all across the internet. You could use Blogger like I do or Wordpress, Tumblr or
Medium.
